I am interested in applying my background as a mucosal immunologist to characterise host–microbial interactions in understudied and threatened systems. My research aims to understand how host glycan (sugar chain) profiles present in the amphibian skin mucosa shape microbial community composition and colonisation of the devasting fungal pathogen Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis (Bd). This approach not only provides a fundamental insight into how host factors shape microbiome assembly at a key barrier site, but also has the potential to develop new strategies against Bd that support long-lasting conservation of threatened amphibian species.
